 We are making some needed changes to the computer lab programs this year. It is my hope that everything will be running smoothly in a couple of weeks. Some of the changes have to do with changing technology and obsolete exams, while other things like over crowding and availability of volunteers are creating a need to schedule students into set days of the week. The CDL Program will start on October 5th with open registration and introductions to the program. The exams will start the following week. This year we will be separating some of the days into grade levels; K-2 and 3-5. These classes will alternate with the Choir schedule. See schedule below;

Mondays:         Open computer lab; Free Day / school appropriate content only.  CDL exams are optional

Tuesdays:         3-5th Grade students; CDL exams and short individualized tutorials

Wednesdays:    K-2nd Grade students; CDL exams and short individualized tutorials

Thursdays:        All Grades; CDL exams and short individualized tutorials

Fridays:            All Grades; CDL exams and short individualized tutorials

The students may still enjoy many of the Internet games once he/she has completed one of the first four choices in the Rules and Practices.;

CDL Rules and Practices

Please take a number if you need the attention of one of the instructors!

(A deck of playing cards are hanging from a hook on the bulletin board next to the door)

You have five choices:

1)                  Take a CDL exam

2)                  Take a tutorial about an CDL exam

3)                  Do 15 Min of Classroom study / Homework*

4)                  Fill out a Web Permit**

5)                  Play Educational internet games***

*          Classroom study/homework is anything you are learning in your classroom. An example would be if you are studying plants, you could go to a Website with games about plants on the internet.

**        A Web Permit is an alternative to the CDL program. A student may fill out a web permit stating what website he/she would like to go to. Then write a brief description of what the website is about and what educational value they are getting by playing the game. One to five sentences are needed, (depending on the student’s grade level) to go to the game.

***      If you choose to play Internet games, one of the first four choices has to be completed before you may go onto a game Website.

Lab Hours:       Monday – Friday          8:00 – 9:00AM

   If you were registered in the program previously, you will automatically be registered for the new school year and will only need to update your new classroom information, take a new picture, and complete a review of the last level you completed. If you have not registered before, you may stop by the computer lab and pick up an enrollment form.  This program is completely optional and should not interfere with the regular school curriculum.

      The CDL program consists of six levels of ability with six exams in each level.  To advance to the next level one must complete all six exams in the previous level.  Members will receive a hole-punch, in their driver’s license for every exam taken successfully and a certificate of ability after every completed level.  The lab will be open before school five days a week for taking exams and doing homework.   Studying to complete the exams is all self-motivated.  It is completely up to the member to advance through the levels.  If a member does not know how to pass an exam, a tutorial can be taken with an instructor to show the basic knowledge to pass that exam.  If a tutorial is taken, the member cannot take the exam until the next scheduled day. The goal is to give a basic understanding of computers to students, teachers, and parents as a tool for greater learning. The program operates on a first come first served (take a number) basis.  There may be a time when there are too many members in the lab for everyone to take an exam or go through a tutorial.  For those members who arrived on time and were not able to take an exam, we will give a “Wild Card” to be used the next time they attend the program.  A member with a “Wild Card” will be the next served when shown to an instructor.  Students do not need a parent in attendance.

The computer lab will be open at 8:00 AM everyday. There are times when I am not able to open the computer lab in the morning; on those occasions, I will change the color of the CDL tag to RED on the home page of the Computer Lab Website.  In most cases, I will also post a note outside the computer lab door in advance when I know the computer lab will be closed. It is always a good idea to check the Website before dropping off your child in the morning.
